Things to know about Gulf Toad fish

Posted by Reefguy Bri on 7th Sep 2021

The Gulf Toadfish is a bottom-dwelling predator good for a large aggressive aquarium. They have a very large mouth and have been known to prey on tankmates and will especially eat inverts like shrimp and crabs. Do not keep with small fish or in a reef aquarium! However Toadfish are great to watch and will build a den under a rock which it will back into so it may ambush prey or to protect itself or den. They will come out with time mostly early evening, will also jet out for food dangled in front of it with a feeding tool. Mine is happily housed with 7 larger fish a Puffer and a chainlink Moray Eel. it also produces a toad-like grunt and whistle to attract a mate, between that and its appearance gives it the name TOADFISH.
