Spotlight on Our Pufferfish

Balloon Puffer / Spiny Porcupine Fish

One of the most popular puffers, the Balloon Puffer (Diodon holocanthus) doesn’t just puff up—it has spines too! Despite their tough exterior, they have dog like personalities and are a favorite among aquarists

Spiny Box Puffer / Striped Burrfish

With its spiky body and big eyes, the Spiny Box Puffer (Chilomycterus schoepfi) is one of the coolest fish you can put in a tank. They’re hardy, curious and always looking for their next meal.

Sharpnose Puffer

Small but full of personality, the Sharpnose Puffer (Canthigaster rostrata) darts around the tank with confidence. These little guys are always busy, whether it’s investigating rockwork or showing off their bold colors.

Southern Pufferfish

The Southern Puffer (Sphoeroides nephelus) has a distinct look and a big appetite. Known for their intelligence, they’ll learn to recognize you and swim up when it’s feeding time.

Caring for Pufferfish

  • Diet: Carnivores with strong beaks—feed them shellfish, crustaceans, and mollusks to help wear down their ever-growing teeth.
  • Tank Setup: Provide plenty of space and a mix of hiding spots and open water for swimming.
  • Behavior: Generally peaceful but can be territorial. Best kept with tank mates that can hold their own. Don’t house with small invertebrates - puffers may eat them.

Pufferfish aren’t just fish—they’re personalities with fins. If you want a pet that interacts, explores, and keeps things interesting, check out our collection!
