The Aquacultured Black Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is a popular and dependable favorite in the saltwater hobby, prized for its bold contrast and captive-bred reliability. This color variant features a deep black body paired with crisp white bars, often accented by subtle orange around the face or fins depending on the individual. Its clean patterning and classic clownfish shape make it a standout in both reef and fish-only aquariums.

Captive bred and raised in aquaculture facilities, this clownfish is well adapted to aquarium life and tends to be hardier and less aggressive than many wild-caught alternatives. It does well in a wide range of setups and doesn’t require a host anemone to thrive, though it may naturally bond with anemones or even adopt corals and other tank decor. Black Ocellaris Clownfish are generally peaceful but can become mildly territorial as they mature, especially when kept as a bonded pair.

This species is fully reef safe and won’t bother corals or most invertebrates. Aquacultured individuals readily accept a variety of foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellets or flakes. Their manageable size, durability, and friendly behavior make them an excellent choice for both new and experienced hobbyists.
