The Caribbean Blue Leg Hermit Crab (Clibanarius tricolor) is a hardy and colorful addition to saltwater aquariums. Known for its bright blue legs with black banding and active scavenging behavior, this small hermit crab adds both visual interest and practical cleanup benefits to your tank.
Native to Caribbean reefs and sandy shorelines, Blue Leg Hermits spend their time grazing on algae, leftover food, and detritus. They appreciate plenty of live rock to explore and a sandy substrate, along with extra empty shells to reduce shell competition. While generally peaceful, they may pick at snails if suitable shells are not available.
This species is very hardy and adapts easily to aquarium life. In addition to naturally occurring algae, Blue Leg Hermits will accept algae wafers, pellets, and other supplemental foods. Their small size, bright coloration, and usefulness as part of a clean-up crew make them a staple choice for reef and fish-only systems.
