The Blue Chromis (Azurina cyanea, sometimes listed as Chromis cyanea) is a small, peaceful, and beautifully colored damselfish that’s perfect for adding a splash of bright blue to your saltwater aquarium. Its shimmering cobalt-blue body catches the light beautifully, creating a striking contrast against live rock and other tank inhabitants.
Native to the Caribbean, Blue Chromis are active, schooling fish that do best in groups of three or more. While generally peaceful, males may show mild territorial behavior during breeding, but it’s usually not aggressive toward other species. Avoid keeping them with very aggressive tankmates or much larger predatory fish. They are an excellent choice for community tanks, and they spend much of their time swimming in open water, adding movement and life to your aquarium. Providing plenty of open swimming space along with rockwork for occasional hiding helps them feel secure.
Blue Chromis are hardy and easy to feed, readily accepting frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality pellets or flakes. Their adaptability, vibrant coloration, and peaceful temperament make them a favorite among both beginner and experienced marine hobbyists.
