The Caribbean Cottonwick Grunt (Haemulon melanurum) is a classic and active addition to large saltwater aquariums. Known for its sleek silver body, subtle yellow highlights, and distinctive dark marking near the tail, this species brings constant movement and a true Caribbean reef feel to your tank.
Native to Caribbean reefs and sandy lagoon areas, Cottonwick Grunts appreciate plenty of open swimming space along with rockwork for shelter and security. They are generally peaceful and do best with other similarly sized tank mates, though they may become more assertive as they mature.
This species is hardy and adapts well to captivity, readily accepting a diet of meaty frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood, along with high-quality prepared foods. Its active nature and durability make it a great choice for experienced hobbyists with larger fish-only or FOWLR aquariums.
