The Jewel Damselfish (Microspathodon chrysurus) is a small but bold addition to any saltwater aquarium, known for its stunning coloration and lively personality. Juveniles show off vibrant electric blue bodies dotted with bright spots, while adults develop a darker, chocolate-brown hue with striking blue highlights along the fins, a dramatic transformation that adds interest as they grow.

Native to the Caribbean, Jewel Damselfish are hardy and adapt well to a variety of tank conditions. They’re active and curious, often patrolling rockwork and staking out a favorite territory. While generally considered reef safe with corals, they can be territorial toward other small fish, especially in confined spaces, so plenty of rockwork and hiding spots help reduce aggression.

This species is easy to feed and accepts a wide range of foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality flakes or pellets. Their hardy nature and striking colors make them a great choice for both beginner and experienced marine hobbyists.

If you’re looking for a hardy, colorful, and active fish that brings personality to your tank, the Jewel Damselfish is a standout choice for both reef and fish-only setups.
