The Caribbean Orange Claw Hermit Crab (Calcinus tibicen) is a hardy and eye-catching addition to saltwater aquariums. Known for its dark legs accented with bright orange claws and active behavior, this species adds both color and movement while helping keep your tank clean.
Native to Caribbean reefs and rocky shorelines, Orange Claw Hermits spend much of their time scavenging for algae, leftover food, and detritus. They appreciate plenty of live rock to explore, a sandy substrate, and extra empty shells to reduce competition. While generally peaceful, they can become opportunistic if underfed or short on shells.
This species is very hardy and adapts well to aquarium life. In addition to grazing on algae, Orange Claw Hermits will readily accept algae wafers, pellets, and small meaty foods. Their durability, bold coloration, and usefulness as part of a clean-up crew make them a great choice for both reef and fish-only systems.
