Porcelain Crab

The Caribbean Porcelain Hermit Crab (Petrolisthes galathinus) is a unique and delicate-looking addition to saltwater aquariums. Known for its flattened body, smooth claws, and graceful movements, this small crustacean adds subtle interest and Caribbean reef charm to your tank.

Native to Caribbean reefs and rocky shorelines, Porcelain Hermit Crabs prefer plenty of live rock with crevices where they can hide and perch. Unlike most hermit crabs, they are gentle filter feeders, using their feathery mouthparts to capture plankton and fine food particles from the water column. They are peaceful and do well in calm community reef systems.

This species is hardy when properly cared for and benefits from regular feedings of fine particulate foods such as powdered plankton, reef roids, or finely crushed flakes. Its small size, peaceful nature, and unique feeding behavior make it an excellent choice for reef aquariums looking to add diversity without aggression.
