Rock Beauty Angelfish (Holacanthus tricolor)
The Rock Beauty Angelfish (Holacanthus tricolor) is a striking Caribbean angelfish known for its bold combination of deep black, bright yellow, and golden-orange coloration. With its dark body and vibrant yellow face and tail, this beautiful species makes a stunning addition to a large saltwater aquarium.
Native to Caribbean reefs and the Western Atlantic, Rock Beauty Angelfish do best in mature aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing and lots of caves and hiding places. They generally get along with most community fish but can be territorial toward other angelfish. If added to a peaceful community aquarium, the Rock Beauty should be the last fish introduced.
This species is not reef safe and is prone to nipping at both stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles. Rock Beauty Angelfish thrive on a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality prepared foods.
Rock Beauty Angelfish are hermaphroditic, meaning individuals can change sex during their lives. This reproductive trait, combined with their social behavior, makes them very difficult to breed successfully in an aquarium.
