The Caribbean Southern Pufferfish (Sphoeroides nephelus) is a charming and engaging addition to large saltwater aquariums. Known for its rounded body, soft gray to brown coloration, and subtle markings, this species brings personality and a gentle Caribbean reef presence to your tank.
Native to Caribbean reefs, seagrass beds, and sandy bottoms, Southern Puffers appreciate plenty of hiding spots among rockwork and open sand areas for resting and foraging. They are generally peaceful but may nibble on small invertebrates if not properly fed.
This species is hardy and adapts well to captivity, readily accepting a carnivorous diet of meaty frozen foods such as shrimp, chopped seafood, clams, and other meaty fare, along with high-quality prepared foods. Its playful nature, unique appearance, and bottom-dwelling habits make it a great choice for hobbyists with established fish-only or FOWLR aquariums.
