The Caribbean Spanish Hogfish (Bodianus rufus) is a vibrant and active addition to large saltwater aquariums. Known for its striking red body with darker patches and a prominent white stripe along the face in juveniles, this species adds both color and personality to your tank as it matures into a bold adult.
Native to Caribbean reefs and rocky habitats, Spanish Hogfish appreciate plenty of live rock with caves and crevices where they can hide and feel secure. They are generally peaceful but can show mild territorial behavior toward smaller or similar-sized tank mates, especially as they reach adulthood.
This species is hardy and adapts well to captivity, readily accepting a carnivorous diet of meaty frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality prepared foods. Its striking coloration, active nature, and engaging personality make it a great choice for experienced hobbyists with larger fish-only or FOWLR aquariums.
