Caribbean Upside Down Jellyfish (Cassiopea xamachana)
These unique jellyfish rest upside down on sandy bottoms, using their arms to filter-feed while hosting symbiotic algae that provide natural color in shades of white, blue, green, and brown. Native to shallow mangroves, mudflats, and seagrass flats in Florida’s subtropical waters, they rely on high-intensity light for photosynthesis and require daily feedings of zooplankton. Sensitive to water quality changes and incompatible with tank mates, they are best kept in specialized, species-only setups.
